This series brings together the concept of large language models (LLMs) and the modified car club. Whilst both share the spirit of a linear surge into the future, modified car clubs and LLMs are stewards of the past, cataloguing, preserving and reformulating things that already exist. The similarities sit uncomfortably together, complicated by different cultural value systems, one firmly rooted in the relational, and the other in industry. The Wind in the Willows character Toad of Toad Hall, a Modernist from a transitional point between the feudal and industrial, haunts the staging of these works, marking the economic shifts occuring now.

Sampling and AI generated audio is used in a performance work presented at New Contemporaries Live, which tours the audio landscape of the car, bringing different revolutions of sampled sounds and forward progress together. In another sound work commissioned by Future Artefacts, the main character from The Wind in the Willows is reimagined as a ghost navigating the subcultural.

In this series Toad also takes a tour of the materiality of the present in sculptural form, sitting alongside ubiquitous contemporary material like aluminium v slot and cardboard, laser engravings of subcultural noise from the internet and craft processes.
